Immigration Attorney – Lead Attorney & Department Manager
Wincorn & Associates – Dallas, TX
Position Overview
Wincorn & Associates is seeking a highly experienced Lead Immigration Attorney (10+ years of relevant practice), licensed in Texas, to take full ownership of the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of our Immigration Department. This role is designed for an attorney who can serve as the operational lead for the department—overseeing a diverse and active caseload with substantial experience in deportation and removal defense, asylum and withholding of removal, appeals before the BIA, and complex waiver practice—while also managing and expanding a team of paralegals and legal assistants.
This is a leadership-driven position requiring strong management capability, advanced subject-matter expertise, and the ability to build, guide, and grow a high-performing legal team. The ideal candidate is client-centered, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Team Management
Provide daily supervision, direction, and mentorship to the paralegals and legal assistants (currently a team of two, with planned expansion).
Establish and maintain workflows, quality-control procedures, and departmental best practices.
Oversee assignment delegation, deadline tracking, and case management efficiency.
Cultivate a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture within the immigration team.
Work closely with firm leadership to grow the department and support long-term strategic goals.
Family-Based Immigration (USCIS Practice)
Review and manage a wide range of applications, including I-130, I-485, I-601A, I-601, I-212, I-589, N-400, K visas, FOIAs, and consular processing.
Conduct thorough consultations to advise clients on strategy, eligibility, and documentation requirements.
Prepare clients for USCIS and consular interviews.
Collaborate with team members to ensure filings are accurate, timely, and persuasive.
Removal Defense (EOIR / Immigration Court)
Represent detained and non-detained clients in immigration court, including appeals before the BIA as needed.
Conduct detailed intakes, including at detention facilities; develop customized legal strategies.
Draft briefs, motions, and applications for relief (cancellation of removal, asylum, adjustment, waivers, and more).
Appear at master calendar and individual hearings; coordinate with experts, medical professionals, and community organizations.
Stay current on evolving immigration law and policy, and ensure internal team is informed and aligned.
Cross-Functional Responsibilities
Maintain consistent, professional, and empathetic communication with clients regarding case status and next steps.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrative staff, and external partners to ensure holistic legal services.
Maintain a high-volume caseload while meeting strict deadlines and procedural requirements.
Participate in CLEs, mentorship opportunities, and professional associations such as AILA.
Travel as needed for USCIS interviews, ICE visits, and out-of-state hearings.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Ten or more years of full-time immigration law practice, with substantial experience in both family-based immigration and removal defense.
Education & Bar Admission: J.D. from an accredited law school; active Texas Bar membership in good standing.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with legal case management software.
Language Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
Personal Qualities: Strong communication skills, cultural competence, empathy, commitment to client service, and the ability to navigate sensitive matters with professionalism.
