Under the supervision/oversight of the Chief Legal Officer, this position functions as a generalist, providing services in a variety of subject areas, including employment, contracts, student issues, governance, constitutional law, civil rights, policy development and review, open records, privacy, law enforcement, litigation, risk management, tax, tort, public-private partnerships, employee benefits, athletics, construction, real estate, intellectual property, information technology, information security, healthcare, immigration, and ethics/conflicts of interest.
Effectively assist University Administrators in the development of specific contract proposals and/or agreements, an appropriate overall contract strategy, and/or legal review of the applicable terms/conditions.
Provide legal counsel to University departments on issues pertaining to higher education.
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited school of law and active Texas State Bar membership.
Experience working in a university/college setting.
Experience working on government or state agency contracts.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Advanced knowledge of contracting principles, including developing, drafting, revising, and interpreting contracts; negotiating contract terms; and, conducting contract risk assessments.
Strong working knowledge of contract formation and contract administration functions.'
Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to clearly and effectively provide information, which is logically and grammatically correct, to internal and external audiences in a timely manner.
Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive and/or legally privileged information.
Ability to consistently exhibit a professional and positive attitude and demeanor, even when dealing with difficult or demanding personalities, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and mutually supporting working relationships across the University.
High level of computer and web research proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications, database applications, LexisNexis, etc.
Strong organization, planning, analytical and problem resolution abilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize and consistently complete tasks while working under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to collaborate with others when necessary to accomplish common goals.
Ability to consistently and reliably respond to voicemails, emails and other correspondence in a timely manner.
