Smith, King & Simmons, P.C. of Gordon, Nebraska is seeking qualified applicants for a full time associate attorney and deputy county attorney. This is a combined position, meaning the successful candidate will be employed by both Smith, King & Simmons P.C., and the Sheridan County Attorney's Office. Starting salary of $70,000.00, but may be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. Additional benefits, including insurance and retirement are also available and employment with the Sheridan County Attorney's office may qualify an attorney for assistance through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Primary duties of the position as deputy county attorney include criminal prosecution of misdemeanor, traffic/infraction and juvenile offenses, as well as coroner, mental health board and child support enforcement responsibilities. Primary duties of the private associate attorney position may allow for the freedom to choose preferred areas of legal practice, however, some work in contracts, real estate, wills, estate planning, probate and municipal law will be required.
A successful candidate must be dependable, focused and at all times demonstrate a high level of professionalism and the ability to communicate and practice law effectively with judges, law enforcement, clients, fellow attorneys, victims and with court and office staff. Interested persons must be licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska or have the ability to become licensed in Nebraska in the near future. Candidates must be willing to reside in, or within easy driving distance of, Sheridan County, Nebraska.

Smith, King & Simmons P.C. is small law office located in Gordon, Nebraska. Currently, we have two practicing attorneys and two full time members of administrative staff. As a law office in rural, western, Nebraska, attorneys handle a variety of practice areas, including wills, probate, estate planning and trust administration, real estate matters, contracts and litigation. Attorneys with this office are also currently serving as the elected county attorney and deputy county attorney for Sheridan County, Nebraska and therefore handle all duties of the county attorney's office, including prosecution of all levels of offenses, coroner responsibilities and child support enforcement. This office also handles a great deal of municipal law as the acting attorneys for various cities and villages in the area.
