Two positions: (1) Affirmative Litigation & Equity; (2) Employment & Personal Injury. Both responsible for complex civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court. Duties include researching and preparing for trials before judges and juries, conducting discovery, arguing motions, and settlement negotiation.
About Us: The Office houses more than 50 lawyers and 25 support staff. It is led by the City Counselor, who serves as chief counsel to elected City officials, boards and commissions, as well as departments and agencies – including the St. Louis Development Corporation, the Metropolitan Police Department, and Lambert International Airport.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
? Working manager responsible for handling a personal docket including the most complex civil litigation filed against the City of St. Louis and administrative law matters.
? Duties include preparing written discovery, motions, and briefs; takes and defends depositions; represents the City in legal proceedings before state and federal courts as well as administrative bodies; researching and preparing appellate briefs and arguing appeals at all appellate levels; and providing legal advice to City departments, appointing authorities, and employees or officials.
? Responsible for supervising and training multiple junior attorneys.
? Responsible for working independently and exercising sound judgment on a daily basis.
? Must possess significant civil litigation experience that includes matters at the trial and appellate levels in state court and federal court.
? This attorney will receive assignments and direction from the City Counselor and a Deputy City Counselor.
