Applicants should have a law degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience gained in private practice and/or as in-house counsel, ideally in the higher education space.

There are two postings depending on the years of experience, requisitions 99403 and 99406, for the same position. We are willing to consider candidates with more work experience for a Senior University Counsel position. Requirements include excellent academic credentials, writing, analytical and communication skills as well as good judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems. Experience working in higher education or with higher education clients is preferred.

Candidate must be a member of the California State Bar or any other State Bar and otherwise qualified and register to practice law in CA as registered in-house counsel upon starting in this role.

The expected pay range for this position is $250,000-$350,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
