Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks several assistant attorneys general to represent the State of Iowa’s Child Support Services (CSS) in Des Moines and Burlington. Duties include appearing before the District Court in actions to establish, modify or enforce support, reviewing and presenting to the District Court administrative support orders entered by CSS, and providing legal advice to CSS on a variety of matters. While some in-person court attendance is required, successful candidate may be given the option of remote work or being housed in a CSS office other than Des Moines or Burlington.
A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle a large caseload. Previous experience with the Iowa Child Support Guidelines, with family law cases, or with child support enforcement is preferred but not required. Admission to practice law in Iowa is required, although consideration may be given to recent graduates who are awaiting results of or have applied to take the Iowa Bar Exam.
Salary range is $55,952–$85,176, depending on experience.
Provide quality, professional legal representation to the State of Iowa, its agencies and departments; to guarantee effective enforcement of the state's criminal law by providing technical assistance to county attorneys, upholding criminal convictions at the appellate level, and administering programs to assist crime victims; to provide vigorous enforcement of the State's Consumer Fraud and Environmental laws; to provide written legal opinions to assist public officials in their duties; and to advocate for the interests of the State and its citizens.
