The City of Redding is hiring an Assistant City Attorney to provide support and legal guidance to the Redding City Council and City Leadership Teams, as well as prepare ordinances and resolutions, review City contracts, and represent the City during labor grievances, among other duties, as part of the City Attorney’s Office. The ideal candidate must be familiar with municipal government structure and operations, be skilled in understanding and interpreting state and federal laws, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in the field of risk management is highly valued.
The Assistant City Attorney is expected to provide timely and competent legal support to the City Attorney. In doing so, the Assistant City Attorney will provide comprehensive legal guidance to the City Council, department heads, and to the City’s Executive and Leadership Teams. The Assistant City Attorney is also tasked with preparation of ordinances and resolutions, review of contracts, the direct management of the City’s Code Enforcement Division, representation of the City during labor grievances, and defense of litigation filed against the City.
•Must be a current member of the California State Bar Association. •Must be willing and able to attend evening meetings. •A minimum of five years of experience as an attorney engaged in the practice of civil law, preferably in a municipal setting. •In addition to the above, an Assistant City Attorney II will have at least one year of supervisory experience.
