The City of Wichita (Kansas) Law Department is seeking an attorney with five- plus years of experience in airport law, construction law, and negotiating and drafting complex contracts for a wide variety of purposes. Position serves as sole counsel to a small-hub commercial service airport and reliever airport. The position reports to the Director of Law. Requires graduation from an accredited school of law and admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas or eligibility for admission by reciprocity, plus a minimum of five years of experience in professional legal work. Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of civil law, especially as they relate to municipal corporations, and ability to apply this knowledge to varied legal problems.
Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and materials of legal research and investigation.
Thorough knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence in both federal and state court
Ability to analyze legal documents and instruments and anticipate implications or performance
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other Departments, representatives of outside agencies, opposing counsel, City officials, and the public.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle. and the ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
Shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Ability to interpret and apply federal regulations, guidance, and directives to Airport scenarios and agreements.
