The Office of the County Counsel focuses on offering sound legal advice, practical options, and effective solutions to the Board of Supervisors, the Chief Executive Officer, the County Administrative Office; other departments, commissions, and special districts; and various joint powers authorities. Its attorneys are at the forefront of cutting edge social, political, and legal issues such as marijuana and homelessness. The Chief Assistant County Counsel assists in planning, directing, organizing, and supervising the activities of the County Counsel’s Office and acts as legal advisor. The ideal candidate is a team player with prior government management experience. They are well-versed in the rules, regulations, and laws that influence local decision making at the county level in the state of California. They are adept at writing Board letters and presenting complex information in easy-to-understand terms. They have a positive professional demeanor; organizational skills; and a good sense of humor.
A typical qualifying applicant has extensive experience providing legal advice within a political environment, handling the variety of legal matters relevant to government/public sector, municipal, and/or private sector law, and substantial management experience in a California public sector civil law office. Only those individuals who are active members, in good standing, of the California State Bar will be considered.
