The Port of Oakland is recruiting for two DEPUTY PORT ATTORNEY III positions. Under direction, the Deputy Port Attorney III provides expert legal counsel for the Port on a wide variety of complex legal matters and may function as project leader on selected legal projects. The Port Attorney’s Office is seeking candidates with expertise in the following practice areas:
Position 1 - Procurement of goods and services, IT transactions and public works contracting: Counsel on matters relating to the procurement of goods and services, including information technology transactions and public works contracting. This work will cover the spectrum of the procurement process such as bid/proposal preparation, contract drafting and negotiations, bid protests and contract claim resolution.
Position 2 - Environmental compliance and regulatory matters: Counsel on environmental compliance and regulatory matters, including investigation and remediation of contaminated sites, negotiations with environmental regulatory agencies, air quality, asbestos, PFAS, underground storage tanks, PCBs, lead based paint, drinking water, sanitary sewers, and storm water; environmental cost recovery matters, including pursuing potentially responsible parties; environmental real estate transaction work, including negotiating and drafting the environmental provisions of real estate documents; assisting with insurance placement; and assisting with environmental insurance claims and the associated cost recovery program.
The successful candidate will possess a combination of education and experience that reflect the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position. A typical combination would include graduation from an accredited college or university with a juris doctorate PLUS five years of professional work as an attorney.
