The Special Litigation Division seeks a trial attorney to defend the state in all areas of tort, employment, and Title IX litigation. Attorneys with the AG’s Special Litigation Division represent various State agencies, create and maintain relationships with agency clients, engage expert witnesses, manage the discovery process, and direct all aspects of trials as first or second chair. The Division also offers opportunities to carry cases through appellate litigation in state and federal court, including research and briefing of novel issues and oral arguments before the Iowa Court of Appeals, the Iowa Supreme Court, as well as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. The successful applicant for this role will be self-directed, have excellent research, writing, and organizational skills, be a team player, have previous courtroom experience, and be willing to go to trial. Prior trial experience preferred. Travel throughout the state of Iowa, including occasional overnights, is required.
