The Waco City Attorney’s Office is a collaborative team currently comprised of the City Attorney, two Senior Assistant City Attorneys, four Assistant City Attorneys, a Paralegal, and two Legal Secretaries. The Assistant City Attorney position reports to the City Attorney who is one of four City Council appointees. This position handles a variety of matters. With the correct skill set, the position will focus on economic development law, utilizing a variety of economic development tools, including Chapter 380 Agreements, tax abatements, tax increment financing, public improvement districts, and an economic development corporation.
The City of Waco seeks a creative Assistant City Attorney with strong interpersonal skills who can multitask and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have experience with complex legal matters and have in-depth knowledge of municipal law, specifically in the field of economic development in the State of Texas. Candidates with the appropriate level of experience will be considered eligible for hire as a Senior Assistant City Attorney.
A Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association Accredited law school is required. Two years of experience in the practice of municipal law and courtroom experience is preferred. Candidates must be licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas and remain active with all Texas Bar annual requirements. The hired Assistant City Attorney must be able to become licensed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. A valid Texas Driver’s license is required.
