The University of Alabama System is receiving applications for the position of University Counsel. This position will be based in Tuscaloosa on the campus of The University of Alabama (UA).
Reporting to the Chief University Counsel, the University Counsel provides legal advice and services to the administration, faculty, and staff at UA, and prepares, reviews and recommends institutional policies, procedures, guidelines and other documents as needed.
Strong academic credentials, including a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited institution;
License to practice law in the State of Alabama or eligible for admission by reciprocity;
Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse and demanding clientele;
Capacity to quickly develop expertise on issues and areas relevant to higher education;
Personal and professional integrity;
Excellent judgment and legal skills, including legal research, analysis, and problem-solving skills;
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to establish and maintain collegial and collaborative working relationships within the department and across the University and the System; and
Ability to be sensitive to and understands the special nature of working in an academic institution where the need for a collaborative working style, flexibility, adaptability, and patience are critical to success.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with skill level and years of experience.
