Performs beginning level legal work for the Department; performs related work as required.
Provides legal advice and opinions to senior attorneys, the Director, and other divisions within the Department.
Prepares letters, memoranda, and legal documents to analyze, clarify, or explain laws and rules for Department employees, other Executive branch agencies, state legislators, and federal authorities.
Performs legal research and drafts legislation, rules, declaratory orders, and other legal documents.
Analyzes various sources including current state and federal law and court decisions. Identifies potential conflicts with existing federal or state laws and policy by researching existing policy and law.
Assists in the development of policy guidance for taxpayers.
Assists senior attorneys and other staff in the informal appeals process and contested case proceedings.
Assists the Director in administrative hearings and in drafting orders.
Responds to requests for information or data by performing research and gathering data from various sources. Assists with other tax-policy related studies, projects, and research requests as assigned.
Must pass a criminal background check, FBI fingerprinting, and be in compliance with Iowa tax filing requirements.
Ability to be admitted to the Iowa State Bar. Pending graduates will be considered but must have a law degree by the time of employment.
