Position Status: Regular full-time
The University is seeking an in-house attorney to provide legal advice, guidance, and services to administrators, faculty, and staff on a wide range of issues affecting the university. The position involves direct client contact. This position will be based on the main campus and report to the University Attorney in the Office of Legal Affairs. The Office of Legal Affairs has oversight for all legal matters affecting the university.
The Associate University Attorney functions as a generalist, providing services in a variety of subject areas, including employment, contracts, student issues, governance, constitutional law, civil rights, policy development and review, open records, privacy, law enforcement, litigation, risk management, tax, tort, public-private partnerships, employee benefits, athletics, construction, real estate, intellectual property, information technology, information security, healthcare, immigration, and ethics/conflicts of interest.

Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school.
Admission to the State Bar of Texas, or for out-of-state applicants licensed in another jurisdiction, Admission without examination within one year of hire date.
Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to organize time, flexibility and a collegial disposition are essential attributes.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Seven or more years of relevant work experience Knowledge of legal principles applicable to Texas state government agencies Experience representing institutions of higher education, systems of higher education, or similarly complex and decentralized entities
