Amazon is seeking a Sr. U.S. Immigration Specialist to support the needs of our growing organization. This Seattle-based leadership role will manage end-to-end a complex portfolio of U.S. immigration projects. This work will include legally complex U.S. immigration work such as analyses and filing strategies for entity restructures, M&A filing strategies, creation of processes and strategies to ensure immigration compliance, impact assessments and response strategies to new policy memos. You will act as the single threaded leader for projects that you oversee and share out project updates and program changes with other Immigration Specialists/PMs/leaders and other stakeholders as required. Responsibilities include: •Hands on leader with proven track record of transforming immigration processes and programs •Understand current state of system, processes, and U.S. immigration policy and regulations •Continually identify areas of redundancy or no-value add to ensure process, procedure, and staffing optimization •Oversee complex immigration projects and programs, which could include H-1B cap; PERM; Blanket L program; TN; F-1 STEM EAD; and contingency planning options for known programs and in response to new policy memos •Create tracking mechanisms and other dashboards that measure overall health of programs, such as cycle times, use of EA/OR/NIW in lieu of PERM, creative strategies in lieu of H-1B cap filings, support of displaced employees •Benchmark with other similarly situated companies through industry advocacy orgs such as CFGI •Work with senior leadership within the immigration, Legal, Public Policy, PR, HR Risk and Compliance, Right to Work to review and understand impact of immigration changes and develop associated processes or filing strategies as needed •Educate managers and business partners on employee U.S. immigration concerns, strategies, and guidelines\ •Mentor other Immigration Specialists on the larger team, particularly in program and project management, and provide stretch opportunities where appropriate based on interest/skill
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor’s degree in a related field •8-10+ years of U.S. immigration experience, either within a law firm (such as a supervising paralegal or managing attorney with responsibility for immigration petition preparation/filings) or in-house in an organization with a significant volume of immigration-supported employees or in a recruiting or HR role with heavy U.S. immigration involvement •5+ years of experience in managing complex U.S. immigration projects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS •J.D. or Master’s degree in related field •10+ years of high volume business immigration experience with heavy emphasis on program management, continuous improvement, project management •Successful record of building, improving, and running operational business processes in the U.S., ability to drive program effectiveness and high levels of customer satisfaction •Experience identifying and resolving complex issues, assuming leadership roles in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances – solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgment •Excellent written and verbal communications - ability to interface with all levels of the organization
