Catholic Charities Atlanta is seeking multiple attorneys to work full time in our immigration legal services program. We provide low-cost, quality legal immigration services to more than 6,000 clients annually. A multi-lingual staff specializing in immigration law provides comprehensive immigration legal services to help eligible individuals and families obtain their permanent legal status, assist clients with the naturalization process, and provide legal representation during deportation proceedings. We specialize in assisting survivors of domestic violence, abandoned or neglected foreign children, detained clients, and victims of trafficking and crimes.
First, we seek a general Staff Attorney to work in our offices in Atlanta, Georgia. The primary duty will be direct representation of foreign nationals----including, among others, asylum seekers and U visa-eligible crime victims----in both Immigration Court and before USCIS, but the staff attorney will also provide other services, including legal orientation to detainees at immigration detention facilities throughout Georgia.
Second, Catholic Charities is happy to announce that it will be hiring a Staff Attorney to work on the SAFE Cities Initiative. Through SAFE Cities, we will be providing removal defense services on a universal representation model to immigrants detained at Atlanta City Detention Center. The representation will be at the Atlanta Immigration Court, widely regarded as one of the most difficult immigration courts in the country. This attorney will have the opportunity to ensure that detainees have access to legal counsel and that they are asserting all of their rights in removal proceedings.
Third, Catholic Charities will be expanding our legal orientation services to Atlanta City Detention Center, and we will hire a Staff Attorney to help with expanding the services to the new location. Additionally, the staff member will be developing the materials to conduct the presentations and negotiate relationships with stakeholders.
The candidate must be admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Georgia, have taken the most recent Georgia Bar Exam, or be eligible to waive in to membership in the Georgia Bar. Fluency in Spanish is required, as well as prior experience or coursework in immigration law. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
