The College of Law at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an entry-level Staff Attorney. The position will support the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic by screening cases, managing an independent case load, assisting the Director with supporting the WVU Launch Lab and other University entrepreneurship initiatives, and handling administrative legal duties associated with the EILC.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Screen cases for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Law Clinic by conducting interviews with applicants, maintaining intake files, creating written reports on applicants to EILC Director, and drafting rejection letters to applicants not accepted for services.
Manage an independent case load, which involves assisting clients with transactional matters including, but not limited to, business structuring and incorporation, tax law advice, financing regulatory advice, drafting legal documents, trademark assistance, etc.
Assist EILC Director with supporting the WVU Launch Lab and other University entrepreneurship initiatives by coordinating and creating workshops on important legal topics for WVU Student Entrepreneurs, creating legal educational materials, coordinating and creating advice clinics and legal clinics to provide assistance on legal topics, and holding regular office hours every other week at Launch Lab.
Perform administrative legal duties associated with EILC by maintaining case files, updating and maintaining legal resource library, updating form documents, and conducting legal audit of in-house materials.
A J.D. from an ABA accredited institution is required
Experience in the following areas is preferred:
Non-profit law and tax, community economic development law, corporate law, intellectual property, and real estate
Transactional legal experience
Knowledge of Prezi, Microsoft Office, and Case Management software
Admittance to the West Virginia Bar
